Pew Research defines Gen Z as anyone born between 1997 and 2012. They account for about one-quarter of the population and are on the cusp of financial independence. According to Technomic, chains that enjoy above-average frequent patronage from Gen Zers tend to be limited-service chains, however, that will evolve as the generation moves further along in their careers.
