On April 9, U.S. President Donald Trump announced that tariffs on Chinese exports to the U.S. will increase by an additional 125 percent, bringing the effective tariff rate to 145 percent on many goods.
In addition, country-specific reciprocal tariffs targeting 57 countries—previously announced on April 2—will be paused for 90 days to allow for bilateral negotiations. However, the 10 percent baseline tariff on all countries remains in effect except for USMCA-compliant products.
To support members in navigating these evolving trade policies, IFPA has developed several new resources available on its tariff resources page:
- New Tariff Fact Sheet: This new resource breaks down current tariff policies, timelines, and their potential implications for fresh produce businesses.
- Share Your Story: IFPA wants to hear from you. We’ve created a form for members to share how tariffs are impacting your operations—from sourcing and pricing to supply chain disruptions. Your input helps guide our advocacy and communications efforts.
Updates and resources will continue to be posted on our tariff resource page. Email USGR@freshproduce.com with any questions.
